Support Shannon Moore in the Boston Marathon!

Shannon Moore has been a personal friend and a supporter of the Elixir Fund for many years. She has an incredible spirit and a zest for life that is contagious. When we were given the opportunity to have a runner in the Boston Marathon this year, we instantly thought of Shannon. True to form, Shannon has met this opportunity with great enthusiasm and we are thrilled to have her running in support of Elixir.

A message from Shannon:

I consider myself your average runner with a passion for life. I’ve done 4 marathons within the past 4 years, and always have the goal of having fun with it, and completion. The last one I ran was back in November (the Malibu marathon in Southern Cali), and since then, I hadn’t made plans on my next race.

I met Meg a few years back through my good friend David. He told me about the Elixir Fund and the event he would be hosting in order to benefit this wonderful organization. Having a father that survived prostate cancer, and knowing many lives this horrible disease has been a part of, I instantly felt a connection. So I took my dad, and we had a blast – and the best part was that it was for a great cause.

Just when I started to think about when I was going to train again for another race, I received an email from Meg, letting me know that the Elixir Fund had a charity number for the Boston Marathon and they needed a body to fill those running shoes.. and was so very honored and flattered that she asked me to fill them.

This past month, I lost a cousin to cancer. He started feeling sick the weekend after Thanksgiving 2011. He never even knew he had cancer. A month and a half later, after learning how this disease spread through out his body, he passed. Ira Friedman. He was a wonderful man with a great heart. I will be running in memory of Ira, and in honor of my father and all the other amazing and strong survivors of cancer.

I am so very honored to be a part of this event and I can’t wait to go out there and kick some butt!! I’ve got passion and with all your support… I’m good to go!

Elixir Fund’s Introduction to Complementary Therapies

A unique program that provides patients and caregivers a hands-on, interactive introduction to a variety of complementary therapies that have all been shown to reduce stress, and help to manage side effects such as pain, sleeplessness, and nausea. Open to, and beneficial for, everyone. All supplies provided.

Fee: $10 per class
Space is limited so REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED by the Monday before each class.

It has been another year of tremendous growth for the Elixir Fund. Thanks to Audrey Gordon we have a new logo and thanks to Lisa Snyder of Elle*Eye Design we have a new web page. As we celebrate our eighth year, we are taking stock and looking at new ways in which we can reach more patients and caregivers directly. In February, with the help of Kerry Kay of Kerry Kay Healing, we launched a new program Bridges to Wellness, which was a wonderful success. We are looking at additional ways to expand and adjust our programs so that we are better able to provide direct comfort and support to cancer patients and their caregivers.

The mission of the Elixir Fund is to help patients and caregivers take a break from cancer so that they can continue to live full and rich lives during treatment, better preparing them for life after treatment. It is a common question not only from our supporters, but from friends, family and even neighbors of the over one million people diagnosed with cancer each year – “How Can I Help?” In 2012 the Elixir Fund plans to launch a new and unique program, A Cancer Comfort Registry, which will provide the perfect answer.
