Celebrate the 4th of July with the Elixir Fund & Trenton Thunder!
What’s more American than baseball, hot dogs, and fireworks? Join the Elixir Fund at the Trenton Thunder game on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Game starts at 7:05pm with fireworks immediately afterwards.

Tickets are $11 and a portion of the ticket sales benefits the Elixir Fund. Bring your friends and celebrate with Elixir.

Colon Cancer Awareness Month

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer is preventable and treatable. The recommendation is if you are 50 years old you should have a colonoscopy. However, if there is a family history of colon cancer or polyps, you may want to have your first colonoscopy sooner. Talk to your doctor about warning signs and symptoms, and when you should begin screening.

Aside from colon cancer there are other health issues that may run families. Being informed about your family health history is the first step in prevention. Below is a link to a brief family medical history form. It is beneficial not only for you, but your entire family. While it may be difficult to have some of these discussions, it is important.

Thank you to everyone that made Elixir Fund’s Winter sessions of “Bridges to Wellness,” an introduction to complementary therapies, a wonderful success. Special thanks to Kerry Kay and Ginnette Watkins Keller and thanks to all of our practioners: Kerry Kay, Brian Critchley of Om Central Jersey Massage & Yoga, Kelly Connelly of Four Winds Yoga, and Mame Reynolds of Serenity Massage in Princeton.

Ready to Go!

April 16 was the 116th Boston Marathon and the 2nd hottest on record. Days before the BAA was offering runners an automatic deferal for next year. In the end, 4300 people dropped out, but Shannon Moore, running for the Elixir Fund, could not be stopped! Not only did she brave the heat, but she hit the road and had a great time doing it. For those who know Shannon, this comes as no surprise.

The Elixir crew followed her along the race, catching up with her at mile 17 where she looked like it was just another day. She crossed the finished line smiling and laughing and quickly freshened up, and then hit the town.

We have said it before, but it is worth repeating, we are so honored that Shannon chose to run for the elixir Fund. She has raised over $3,400 of her original $5000 goal. You can still donate in support of her amazing efforts.

After a quick freshening up, Shannon is ready to celebrate!

Elixir Fund’s 2011 Newsletter

It has been another year of tremendous growth for the Elixir Fund. Thanks to Audrey Gordon we have a new logo and thanks to Lisa Snyder of Elle*Eye Design we have a new web page. As we celebrate our eighth year, we are taking stock and looking at new ways in which we can reach more patients and caregivers directly. In February, with the help of Kerry Kay of Kerry Kay Healing, we launched a new program Bridges to Wellness, which was a wonderful success. We are looking at additional ways to expand and adjust our programs so that we are better able to provide direct comfort and support to cancer patients and their caregivers.

The mission of the Elixir Fund is to help patients and caregivers take a break from cancer so that they can continue to live full and rich lives during treatment, better preparing them for life after treatment. It is a common question not only from our supporters, but from friends, family and even neighbors of the over one million people diagnosed with cancer each year – “How Can I Help?” In 2012 the Elixir Fund plans to launch a new and unique program, A Cancer Comfort Registry, which will provide the perfect answer.

Day of Pampering

Our thanks to Radiant Salon in Hamilton, NJ for hosting a Day of Pampering for cancer patients and caregivers.

Radiant Spa & Salon opened its doors to cancer patients and caregivers for a private spa day. Guests were treated to facials, manicures & pedicures, as well as gentle massage. It was a wonderful, relaxing day that provided a bit of an escape.
