On November 1, 2015 TEAM KEVIN will take to the streets of NYC for the TCS New York City Marathon to benefit the Elixir Fund. We will be profiling each of the members of the team. This week we would like to introduce Shelly Moore. You can support her race at https://www.crowdrise.com/ElixirFundNYC2015/fundraiser/shellyandjeanine

A little over 2 years ago I was overweight, struggling with my health and generally unhappy in life. In addition, my Mom, Dad and Grandmother had all been diagnosed with cancer within a very short period of time. I was at an all time low. I then met someone who was doing what I wanted to do – being active, healthy and living life. We became friends and I got the support and encouragement to do the same myself. Since then I have lost about 80 pounds and have completed 7 half marathons, 8 triathlons, a half AquaBike and was part of a relay team completing a run covering almost 200 miles. My life is completely different now.

I will be running the New York City Marathon, my first marathon, with my best friend and supporter Jeanine, not only because I now can, but also to honor and remember those who we know who have gone through or will go through treatment for cancer. Elixir Fund is a charity near and dear to my heart. I knew Kevin McQuarrie, who this charity was inspired by, and knew his feelings about going through treatment. It was his belief that treatment should be done in a positive environment with amenities that not only made him more comfortable, but also allowed him to focus on life beyond cancer. I support Elixir because of this and because it has helped myself and others in making sure our loved ones are comfortable as they go through treatment for cancer.
