We excited to have TEAM KEVIN reuniting with new members to take on the Panasonic New York City Triathlon on behalf of the Elixir Fund. We will be profiling each member of the team in the months leading up to the race on July 19, 2015.

Next up is Susan Clifford. You can learn more about the team and support their fundraising effort by visiting their Crowdrise fundraising page.

Hi! My name is Susan Clifford, and I am so proud to be racing on behalf of Team Kevin for the second time! I am 49 years old, and am very fortunate to live in the beautiful state of Maine. I started racing in triathlons seven years ago when Maine started its first all-women’s triathlon to benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation: Maine’s Tri for A Cure. Simultaneously, a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, and together we agreed that I would start training for her. There were barely three hundred racers that year, and today it is the largest triathlon in Maine. It sells out by lottery every year, raising over $1 million annually for cancer research in the state of Maine.

My friend did not live to see my race that year, but she has been with me ever since, as I train and continue racing in triathlons, raising money for various causes in each race. This year, in the New York City Triathlon, I am raising money for The Elixir Fund – founded on behalf of my high school buddy, Kevin McQuarrie. Kevin’s fun and adventurous approach to life was reflected in his approach to his chemotherapy, and his story lives on with the amazing work of this unique foundation.

I am so lucky to be healthy and continue working on my health with my training. I love being part of this team of amazing individuals – most of whom I’ve known all of my life, and share my love of Kevin and this organization. I race because I can, and I raise money for organizations that give back to people that are not able to race themselves.

I am humbled and honored to be a part of Team Kevin and the Elixir Fund. Please peruse this website and find out about the Elixir Fund’s good works, and consider a donation on behalf of Team Kevin!
